How to Set Gambling Deposit and Time Limits
To set a gambling deposit limit, open the account’s responsible-gambling or safer-gambling settings, select the period and maximum deposit amount, and save the change. Check the confirmation and reset rules before depositing. Menus and protections vary by operator; a limit controls one account and does not guarantee protection from harm.
If gambling is affecting essential spending or you cannot keep to a limit, stop depositing and consider self-exclusion or support.
How do I set a deposit limit?
Section titled “How do I set a deposit limit?”- Sign in through the operator’s verified website or app. Avoid links sent by strangers.
- Open Account, Settings, Responsible Gambling, Safer Gambling, or a similarly named section.
- Choose Deposit Limits and read how the operator defines a deposit.
- Select the available period, such as a day, week, or month. Check whether it is a calendar or rolling period.
- Choose an amount you can afford to lose entirely after essentials and commitments. Zero or no gambling may be the appropriate choice.
- Save the change, check its effective time, and keep the confirmation.
- Review account history to check that deposits and remaining allowance match the stated rules.
If there is no visible limit control, ask support about restrictions or account closure. Do not open another account to get around a limit.
Deposit limit, loss limit, or time limit?
Section titled “Deposit limit, loss limit, or time limit?”| Control | What it can restrict | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit limit | Money added to the account over a stated period | Gross deposits or a calculation that subtracts withdrawals |
| Loss limit | Losses as defined by the operator | Whether unsettled bets, bonuses, or other balances affect the calculation |
| Time limit | Session duration or access during a period | Whether it stops play or only gives a reminder |
| Reality check | A notification about time or activity | A reminder may require you to choose to stop |
| Self-exclusion | Access to an account or participating services | Coverage, duration, and the procedure for applying |
A deposit cap is not automatically a loss cap: money already in an account may still be available to lose. A time reminder is not necessarily a block.
How are deposit limits calculated?
Section titled “How are deposit limits calculated?”Read the definition attached to the setting. A gross deposit limit counts money paid into the account. A net calculation can subtract withdrawals, leaving a different allowance. Never assume that withdrawing money increases a safe spending budget.
The UK Gambling Commission’s deposit-limit explanation illustrates why the definition matters. It concerns its own regulatory jurisdiction and does not establish Indian law or the settings available on your account.
When do changes take effect?
Section titled “When do changes take effect?”Operators can apply different rules to decreases, increases, and resets. Check the effective date shown in your account. An increase may involve a waiting period; there is no universal waiting time that applies to every platform or country.
Do not increase a limit to recover losses or because a bonus is about to expire. If a control appears ineffective, stop using the account and contact support.
What if I have accounts on several sites?
Section titled “What if I have accounts on several sites?”An account limit usually covers the service described in its terms. It should not be assumed to cover every account or operator. Track total spending across services, and consider bank gambling blocks or exclusion tools where available. Read their scope rather than assuming universal coverage.
Is there a safe percentage of income to gamble?
Section titled “Is there a safe percentage of income to gamble?”There is no universal percentage that makes gambling safe. Borrowed money, rent, food, bills, savings commitments, and money needed by dependants should not be treated as a gambling allowance. A spending formula cannot assess a person’s risk of gambling harm.
What should I do if I keep breaking limits?
Section titled “What should I do if I keep breaking limits?”Pause gambling, stop additional deposits, and consider exclusion and support. Trying a different betting system does not resolve difficulty stopping. Our pages on recognising warning signs and self-exclusion explain the next options.
This is educational information for adults. Availability, minimum age, and legality depend on location and the service; verify current requirements before using any gambling account.
